To maintain diverse, correctly named and professionally curated living collections of plants for academic excellence in teaching and research within the University of Bristol.
To display these collections in an attractive and informative manner and make them accessible to students, educational organizations, scientific organizations and the general public.
To promote education in and an awareness of the importance of our interdependency on the continued survival of the world's plant resources through appropriate stewardship.
To develop and maintain unique plant collections of national and international importance.
To conserve and display native species of local and national importance.
To maintain a living gene bank of threatened species from the South West of England as well-documented ex situ collections in support of wild in situ populations.
To encourage and foster interest in plants within the local community of Bristol.
To make the collections available and accessible by the provision of information through courses, study days, tours, the media and publicity.
To maintain and enhance the support given to the Garden by the Friends and other supporting bodies.
