The Centre for Ethics in Medicine is an interdisciplinary centre for enquiry, education and engagement in healthcare ethics and law, based in Bristol Medical School
The centre boasts a range of research interests and expertise, and is united in its focus on impactful and practically oriented research that engages directly with public and professional stakeholders.
The centre's research spans everyday ethical dilemmas in healthcare, through to cutting-edge developments in science, law and policy. Its research focuses primarily upon:
- end of life care
- reproduction, families, and healthcare
- methodology in bioethics
- research ethics and integrity
- clinical ethics support and education
- surgery, invasive procedures and innovation.
The centre delivers an extensive programme of medical ethics teaching across all five years of the MBChB in Medicine. The centre also offers the one-year intercalated BSc (Hons) in Bioethics, which can be taken by students of Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Sciences, as well as teaching and supervision at postgraduate level, through MSc, PhD and professional development courses.
