The League Rules for Car Wars
1. Entering the League
1.1. To enter the league you must complete the entry form and attach
the design sheet for you vehicle, preferably with a Vehicle Record
Sheet. When you see that your entry has been acknowledged (via the
Noticeboard, e-mail or talking to a moderator) you are ready to race.
1.2. Designs can be left in the Wargames pigeonhole at the Students
Union or handed to a Moderator at an event
2. Constructing
2.1. You may construct a vehicle using only the rules in the Deluxe
rulebook (the white book which we have in the Wargames cupboard).
Extras are not permitted whether from the Compendium, ADQ, Dueltrack,
Uncle Al's Little Book or any other official or unofficial source.
2.2. In addition you may not using the following:
2.2.1. A Thunderbird Power Plant in any Class except Unlimited
2.3. Remember to add the cost of any armour or hand weapons etc.
your crew has into the total cost of the vehicle.
3. Drivers
3.1. Currently we are not using the skills rules, there are no reflex
rolls or anything similar. Drivers and gunners can carry 6 grenade
equivalents and may use any appropriate item from the White Book.
3.2. A "crew" means the crew of one vehicle and includes all drivers
and gunners but no passengers or foot soldiers who are unable to fight
while onboard the vehicle.
3.3. A crew gains Prestige as per the White Book, the crew is one
person for the consideration of Prestige.
3.4. You may enter a crew into all the Classes but you may only have
one crew in one Class at a time.
4. Dying
4.1. When your crew has been completely killed, i.e. including gunners,
then you are out of the Class. If you did well enough the crew will
be put into the Ten Greatest Drivers list for the Class you were racing
in. You must then create a new character/s . They can use the same car
as the previous crew but the team has Zero Prestige. You do not have
to re-enter a class. If you use a new vehicle to re-enter a Class the
design must be approved again.
4.2. A crew is only killed when all members of it die during the course
of a race.
5. Racing
5.1. A race can only count towards the league if it is observed by a
Moderator or more than 5 players sign a statement testifying to the
outcome of the race. The statement must then be handed to a Moderator.
5.2. There are no rules about the exact nature of a race, a road duel
is just as valid as an arena bash.
5.3. Optional rules. Concerning these we are using the full crash rules
but we are not using the optional fire rules.
6. Teams and Works Teams
6.1. Two or more players can combine themselves into a Team or a Works
Team
6.2. The Works Team can be joined by any number of players and once the
team has been set up the founders have no control of those who can
enter. Once established any player may join a works team.
6.3. A Works team must design one vehicle per Class. All members of the
Works Team must use this car when they race. No modifications to it are
allowed.
6.4. The advantages conferred by joining a Works Team are as follows:
6.4.1. The player may deduct 10% from the cost of repairs to their
vehicle and the cost of buying new ammo.
6.4.2. Once per academic term the player may choose to replace
their current vehicle with a brand new car of the same type.
They may do this during a race or an arena event provided
their Crew is alive and their vehicle is either immobilised
or has left the playing surface. The new car can re-enter
a race in which the old one was destroyed.
6.5. A member of a Works team must always give a copy of their vehicle
Record sheet to an opponent in good time before a race so they can
study it.
6.6. A Team consists of any number of players who co-operate in
designing a vehicle and then take the roles of each member of the crew
of the vehicle, eg. one will be the "driver" another the "gunner" and
so on.
6.7. Being in a Team counts as a seperate Crew for the purpose of
entering a Class. A player may be in any number of Teams within a
league but they can also enter a Crew that they control individually.
7. Scoring
7.1. Your ranking or score is calculated by the following formula;
Prestige of crew divided by number of races crew have undertaken.
7.2. The winner of each Class will be declared at the end of the
second term.
7.3. You always earn at least one point of Prestige if you enter a
race, the exception is when your crew is killed. Prestige (and hence
your score) can never fall below zero.
7.4. Fractions will be rounded up.
8. Classes
8.1. We are using Classes as they are defined in the White Book.
8.2. The current Classes open are: 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, Unlimited
8.3. Helicopters, Buses and Trucks are permitted in the Unlimited
Class at the moment. Ten wheelers will be permitted in their own
Class if there is a demand for it.
The Moderators for the League are: Robert Rees, Robert Norman
