MENS II WATER POLO

Abilities within the Men's Water polo team range from those playing at national and international levels to those with little knowledge of the game but a clear aptitude for it or good swimming ability.

If you find yourself still at the grueling training sessions halfway through the first term you can rest assured that there is a place for you within the prestigious Bristol University Water polo setup!

Rob Gordon

"The 2nd team is both a development side and a team in its own right. Its members have the opportunity to play full Water polo matches on a weekly basis. This allows players of all levels, from those who are likely to play in the BUCS 1st team after Christmas to those who simply wish to improve their overall water polo ability, to gain vital match experience."

Coaching

Both the Men's Water polo teams train in the same sessions so players will benefit from the coaching of Commonwealth medal winning, former Great Britain coach Mark Taylor.

Training

All players in both teams attend the same sessions, so training is both physically demanding and very high quality. Those in the second team are required to attend two Water polo sessions a week. It is also highly recommended to attend the swimming sessions for fitness and land training for specific Water polo exercises.

Socials

The team has a strong social ethos, with the water polo boys forming the social backbone of UBSWPC. Socials are every other Wednesday and often have a theme associated with them. The Water polo teams also often go out and have a meal together after a friday land training session.

Competitions

The team is entered in two main competitions: the Upolo league and the BUCS tournament. Upolo runs during the Autumn term with a home or away fixture most Saturdays. This provides team members with vital game time and players will see much improvement because of this!

The BUCS tournament consists of a first round, semi-final and final played over single weekends in the Spring term.
