Beginners
As a club we actively encourage all levels of windsurfer. If you've never windsurfed before, or have only had a couple of hours on the water we provide you with plenty of opportunities to learn everything you'll need to know. As well as weekly beginner trips we also run a focused weekend, especially designed to progress your windsurfing. Check out our boot camp section for more information about the weekend.
Beginner Trips
We run trips twice a week, on a Wednesday afternoon and one at the weekend. They are an ideal opportunity for you to learn the basics or brush up on rusty windsurfing skills on the lake. The trips are heavily subsidised by the club and our RYA qualified instructors give up their time to teach you. So make the most of their enthusiasm for windsurfing and you'll be planing in no time!
How do I get there?
Meet at the Union by the minibus car park (on the left side of the Union as you look at it) at 13:15 Wednesdays for a quick getaway. Then it's off to to the lake for as much windsurfing as we can fit in before it gets dark!
Get there early as the bus won't wait.... (whoever is driving will be there early to pick up the bus keys).
How do I sign up for the trips?
Places are limited, and allocated on a strictly first come, first served basis, with signup every Tuesday at the social. Trips cost is £5, payable by cheque to "UBWC". No payment, no place on the trip!
What do I need?
- Towel
- Old trainers, or wet boots if you have them
- Swim shorts / costume to go under wetsuit
- Wetsuit if you have your own
- Lunch for the bus trip there (the Union is great to grab a sandwich from)
- Drink and chocolate - you'll most likely be hungry afterwards
- Warm clothes to change into
- Enthusiasm!!!
Events are for beginners too!
The SWA events are a great place to meet windsurfers from other universities and put into practice your new windsurfing skills.
The events are as much of a party as a windsurfing event, and loads of people that go haven't windsurfed before. So put your name down as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Don't forget places are first come, first served.
What if I have more questions?
Don't hesitate to contact beginner reps Rob or Jack with any queries or suggestions. Or come and speak to us on the Tuesday socials.
