The University Undergraduate Studies Committee is a sub-committee of the University Education Committee. 

Purpose

The main purposes of the Committee are:

Terms of reference

Advisory (to the University Education Committee):

1. To advise on the strategic development of undergraduate education across the University.

2. To advise and contribute to the development of any new or substantial changes to regulation or policy as they relate to undergraduate education.

3. To advise and contribute to the development and implementation of educational projects or initiatives.

4. To consider issues relating to undergraduate education on behalf of the University Education Committee, the faculty boards and other relevant committees, preparing reports and recommendations as appropriate.

5. To respond to outcomes or issues raised with regard to undergraduate education from the University’s quality assurance framework.

Decision making (on behalf of the University Education Committee):

6. To be responsible for developing and maintaining strategy and policy that governs undergraduate education.

Communication:

7. To promote active student engagement in matters relating to the academic experience of students.

8. To promote innovation, including through the identification and dissemination of good practice in undergraduate education.

9. To ensure that the views of members’ constituents are represented on the Committee and that pertinent information is fed back to those constituents.

Membership

The membership of the Committee for 2017/18 is as follows:

Quorum

The Chair (or nominee) and at least five other staff members of the Committee to include three Faculty Education Directors.

Mode of operation

1. The Committee will normally meet monthly in term-time.

2. The Committee will normally report monthly to University Education Committee

3. The Committee’s annual schedule of business will be identified at the start of each academic year.  Additional items of work are subject to annual negotiation with the Chair of the University Education Committee.

University Undergraduate Studies Committee reports to University Education Committee so the meetings are scheduled to enable this. The scheduled dates for 2017/18 are as follows:
