The timetabling cycle describes all the processes and deadlines for the production of the teaching timetable.
Any constraints on your availability for teaching must be signed off by your Head of School and sent to the Timetabling Team by the last Friday in April. The constraint form should be sent out to all academics early in March.
A provisional teaching timetable will be released on Friday 16 August 2013.
The final teaching timetable will be released to teaching staff via the portal on Friday 13 September 2013.
Students will be able to view their timetables from Friday 20 September 2013.
Please note that full time staff are expected to be available to teach during university core hours. Constraints on your availability should be identified early in the timetabling process and signed off by your Head of School. Staff should not approach FTEOs to meet individual preferences not covered by an agreement with the Head of School. Please refer to the timetabling policy for more details regarding staff constraints.
Problems with AV equipment
If the allocated room does not contain the AV equipment you need, please contact your FTEO.
Core teaching hours at the University are Monday - Friday from 9.00 - 6.00pm, except for Wednesday afternoons, which will generally be kept free from teaching from 13.00 onwards. Staff and students are expected to be available within these hours unless approved exceptions apply (v).
Classes must adhere to the scheduled teaching slots of 50 minutes to permit students time to travel between lectures, and staff to prepare and set up teaching aids (vii)
Lunch-times - one hour between 12.00 and 14.00 will not be timetabled for each student or member of staff. (viii)
Health and Safety legislation requires the University to ensure that the stated capacity of a room is not exceeded, and it is the responsibility of academic staff to ensure that these capacities are not exceeded. (xv)
Staff must not use rooms they perceive to be free of teaching without first requesting use of the room from their Faculty Education Officer (FTEO). Rooms may be empty for a number of reasons, and may well be timetabled for use in future weeks. Illicit occupation of rooms is the main contributor to room clashes. (xvi)
