English language student summer accommodation
The University provides self catering accommodation for students on the pre-sessional academic English course, or the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). We offer a range of rooms including self contained studios with their own shower, wc and basin and kitchenette, ensuite rooms with their own shower, wc and basin sharing a kitchen with other students or standard rooms sharing bathroom and kitchen. Recent changes in UK law have made it very difficult for students to find private rented accommodation from abroad so you are strongly advised to book through the University.
About the accommodation
Most of our accommodation is suitable for single, unaccompanied students. Couples, or students bringing their family should contact us for further help and advice. Please note we do not supply bedding or kitchen equipment in our residences. Students can order bedding and kitchen packs online.
You'll share the residence with others studying at the Centre for English Language and Foundation Studies (CELFS). You'll usually live in mixed-sex flats or in rooms along mixed-sex corridors. It's likely you'll live with students of the same nationality. All of our residences are non-smoking. Find out more about the residences we offer.

How to apply
Applications for 2017 presessional courses are now open. You can apply online using the link below.
Please note that we are not able to arrange for students to share with particular students in their presessional accommodation. Towards the end of July you will be invited to attend an event where you will be able to make arrangements to share your postgraduate accommodation with specific students.
After your pre-sessional course
If, after your pre-sessional course, you want to stay in University accommodation for your postgraduate year, you must make a separate postgraduate accommodation application. See our postgraduate accommodation pages for more details. We will guarantee to make you an offer of accommodation (subject to conditions).
Your pre-sessional tenancy contract will take you up to the move-in dates at all residences, except Woodland Court where there is a one week gap between moving out of your summer accommodation and into your postgraduate accommodation. Therefore we don't recommend Woodland Court as a choice for your postgraduate accommodation. If you do choose to apply for Woodland Court you will need to find somewhere else to stay during this week.
Paying for your accommodation
A link to our online payment page is provided in your accommodation offer email. You will need a credit card to make the payment and confirm your offer. We are automatically updated when payments are received therefore there is no need for you to send us proof of payment. The accommodation will not be reserved until the fees have been paid in full.
Our guide for agents (PDF, 156kB) provides important information for agents acting on behalf of pre-sessional students.
We guarantee an offer of accommodation to students on the pre-sessional academic English course provided they have accepted their offer of study and paid their course deposit by the deadline:
- 14 week course - deposit deadline is 29 April 2017
- 10 week course - deposit deadline is 27 May 2017
- 6 week course - deposit deadline is 19 June 2017
