The Unite Foundation Scholarship

The Unite Foundation Scholarship for 2018/19 comprises provision of free en suite accommodation in Unite House for three separate years of undergraduate study.

Eligible students must be a full-time, undergraduate, UK, home fee status student 25 years old or under at enrolment in any academic year and must have met the principle scheme criteria of care leaver OR estranged, as below:

  • Care leaver - a formal status that can begin at age 16 and lasts until aged 21, or aged 25 if in higher education.  There are several different categories of care leaver but all legal definitions are eligible for the Unite Foundation Scholarship Scheme.
  • Estranged from family - if you are estranged from both of your biological, adoptive parents, or only living parent, you will be eligible to apply for the Unite Foundation Scholarship Scheme as an estranged student. Student Finance considers you an independent student on the basis of being estranged from your parents if you are permanently not in contact with your parents.

How to apply

If you believe you may be eligible for this scholarship, you can apply via the online application form by 1 June 2018:

Please note, it is important that you still apply for accommodation in the normal way. You do not need to put Unite House as your preference if you don't want to live there. You should only put Unite House as your first preference if you want to live there, regardless of whether or not you receive a scholarship.

Terms and conditions

Please see the fees and funding website for full details and terms and conditions of the Unite Scholarship.

The Unite accommodation provided by the scholarship is in the centre of Bristol where I can experience the social side of university whilst being conveniently located to both the main university precinct and the city centre. The opportunity of this scholarship means that my whole experience of university has been greatly enhanced.

When I found out about the Unite Foundation scheme, I was quite literally lost for words because I knew just how much of a difference it would make if my application was successful. I can say without a doubt that without this help, life at university for me both academically and socially, would be three times harder than the average student. My deepest and sincerest gratitude goes to the sponsors and organisers of the scholarship programme.
