Accommodation management

All residences have a dedicated Accommodation Manager. The Accommodation Manager is assisted by Accommodation Assistants, General Assistants, Porters and Handypersons. The team is headed by a Facilities Manager

The role of the facilities team is:

  • To ensure that the accommodation is kept in a good state of repair and well maintained
  • To ensure that communal areas are kept clean and free of obstructions
  • To work closely with the University’s Security Services to ensure the security of their residents
  • To protect the health and safety of everyone who lives and works in the residence

There will be times when university staff need to enter your flat/room and our Access to Accommodation Policy (PDF, 76Kb) sets out the criteria governing this.

Pastoral support in your residence

All undergraduate students living in residences are provided with an excellent network of support staff. There are nearly 100 members of residential staff who live or work alongside students

Each residence has a Warden, who is assisted by a Student Support Administrator, Deputy Warden and Senior Residents. All of these roles report to the Head Warden.

The role of the pastoral team is to promote the well-being of students in their residence:

  • to provide advice and practical help to students who may encounter day to day or perhaps more long term problems at university
  • to implement the University Regulations with particular regard to the discipline necessary for effective communal life, through promoting and enforcing good order and discipline.
  • to provide welfare and pastoral care and to help foster a sense of community
  • to build co-operation by setting an example, showing a flexible approach and being an active participant in the team.
  • to provide student development activities, to encourage and foster a spirit of community within the residences.

At the start of each year, Wardens work closely with the Accommodation Office, with the allocation of student rooms within the residences. They try to place students in areas with like minded people, but also from diverse backgrounds.

If you would like further information about the specific roles within the residences or are interested in applying for a role, please contact us.
