Every year the University invites its former students back to Bristol for a weekend of reminiscing and re-discovery. This 2008 Convocation Reunion Weekend took place from Friday 4 July to Sunday 6 July and was attended by over 600 former students returning to the city from as far away as Australia, Barbados and Canada.
Alumni of all ages and disciplines returned for a varied programme of events, with graduation years ranging from 1943 to those who have only just received their degree certificate this year. Graduates from the classes of 1958, 1968, 1978 and 1983 celebrated the 50th, 40th, 30th and 25th anniversaries of their graduation by meeting old friends over lunch.
Other highlights of the weekend included a visit to ChemLabS, Professor Ian Cluckie’s talk on “Storms, Floods and Microwaves” and their impact on society, while the Vice-Chancellor updated alumni on the University today in his address. There was also a programme of walks and tours, departmental visits, as well as a guided Harbourside boat trip with Dr Mark Horton from the University’s Department of Archaeology and Anthropology and BBC Two’s Coast programme. A pdf version of the 2008 Convocation Reunion Weekend brochure (PDF, 1.07Mb) is available.
