The University of Bristol welcomes you to an evening at Bristol Zoo Gardens. This is the perfect opportunity to catch up with old Bristol friends, network with fellow professionals and meet with other alumni from Russell Group Universities.
Tim Bennett (MBA 1998) hosted a BBQ for alumni in Shanghai. The city had its hottest July for 140 years, which made for perfect BBQ weather and there was even a few athletic alumni who competed in some games of twister.
Over the weekend of 24 to 27 May, a group of Alumni from the Class of 1963 re-united once more, as they have done every ten years. During their time at the University the group used to meet up for lunch and to read Winnie the Pooh on the steps of the Vic Rooms, then the location of the Student's Union. On one such occasion someone took a photograph of the group. At subsequent re-unions the scene was re-enacted, with the shy and retiring Michael Hursey hiding behind a paper bag.
Dr Hans Friederich FRGS (PhD 1982) gave the 43rd Annual Convocation Lecture on ‘Biodiversity in Europe’. The lecture addressed some of the main challenges for nature conservation in Europe.
This year's Bar Council/Law Society accredited event focused upon Law and the Media with a distinguished panel of speakers.

Bristol Alumni and guests were the first to hear details of a speech by Dr Paul Fisher, Executive Director, Markets, The Bank of England. Dr Fisher summarised his ‘hot off the press’ speech, to be delivered the following day to the Global Borrowers & Investors Forum in London.
The University of Bristol - Midlands Branch of Convocation Midlands group held their annual lunch and AGM.

The lecture formed part of the inaugural festival: "Thinking Futures: The University of Bristol Festival of Social Sciences and Law".
A 25th anniversary Reds’ Dinner and Dance was held for all 373 recipients of Bristol Red who are part of Bristol’s sporting History since it was first introduced in 1987.
The University Careers Service and the London Branch of the Alumni Association ran another successful and well attended workshop, which was targeted at unemployed or under-employed new graduates.
At this exclusive, invitation-only event for alumni and friends who are Bristol Pioneer donors to the University, Professor Eric Thomas (Hon LLD 2004) invited the Bristol Pioneers to join him and a panel of senior leaders. They provided a unique insight into how the University has responded to the changes in higher education funding, and how philanthropy continues to provide a much needed and significant role in our future.
The 10th annual Eastern Canada Alumni Reunion 2012 will centre on the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario, a favourite destination for many. The best seats need to be booked well in advance but there are many left, so newcomers are welcome.
Following on from previous successful evenings, Chrystelle Tassios (LLM 2005) hosted an event for all Bristol alumni and friends living and working in Paris.
In the past year, the student funding and admissions landscape has fundamentally changed. Lucy Collins, Head of Widening Participation & Undergraduate Recruitment at Bristol, gave an informative talk aimed at explaining the University’s undergraduate admission policies and procedures, and tackled the questions that have arisen as a result of government policy changes.
East Midlands Alumni Branch inaugural event took place on the 1st September 2012, with organisers Ted Cocking (BSc 195) and John Brian (BA 1957). The event was a successful East Midland Branch inaugural event which was themed around the Bramley Apple.
On 26th August 2012, The University of Bristol Alumni Association in Malaysia ran a successful orientation event for students due to start at the University in October. Practical tips were given to the new students on settling in at Bristol, thanks to Timothy and Klaus (President and Vice President of MSSA respectively).
As part of the Alumni Weekend 2012, Emeritus Professor Stephen Lisney (BSc 1972, BDS 1975, PhD 1978, MA 2005) gave an insightful, entertaining and thought provoking Valedictory Lecture on ‘Marshall Hall and the concept of spinal reflex action (1832)’.
As part of the Alumni Weekend 2012, Emeritus Professor Bob Evans (PhD 1970) gave a humorous and in-depth Valedictory Lecture about ‘Understanding the States of Matter: 45 Years and Still Trying’, where he traced research developments up until present day work about collides.
At the reunion lunches, those who graduated in 2002, 1992, 1982, 1972, 1962, and earlier, were celebrated in the magnificent setting of the Great Hall, in the Wills Memorial Building where many alumni will remember having their degree ceremony.
As part of the Alumni Weekend 2012, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eric Thomas, chaired an exceptional discussion between some of the City’s and the University’s most influential people in arts, culture and drama in a discussion about how they think the University has influenced the cultural development of the city.
On the 21st until the 23rd June, 13 graduates and 8 spouses, including three from overseas, attended a Medics 53 year reunion. Attendees came from as far apart as Australia and Canada.

At this event, Professor Gianni Angelini (MD MCh FRCS FETCS F Med Sci), head of the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI), talked about his pioneering techniques and how the future of scientific developments could revolutionise treatment. He was joined by Dr Tyfield, a patient of the BHI, who gave a first-hand overview of the impact of heart disease and the hope that modern science can bring.
Following on from the successful event held in June, Chrystelle Tassios (LLM 2005) has organised a wine tasting and networking evening for Bristol alumni and friends.

On the 11 May 2011, law and economic alumni met for a Corporate Governance debate with an emphasis on pay and sustainability, followed by a drinks and canapé reception.

Bristol alumni based in Japan gathered for their annual party. Over the last few years these events have grown in attendance and we are always happy to see more of our alumni joining us each time.
