Jayne Pearce-McMenamin (BA 1986)

Jayne Pearce-McMenamin has over 23 years’ experience in the media operations and communications sector. In that time she has worked on media relations for over fifty major sporting events, including five Olympic Games, five Football World Cups (men's and women's) and countless track and field events. She has been media director of two International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Athletics and one IAAF World Indoor Championships. She has also worked as a media consultant to the International Olympic Committee, a media officer for Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and Press Director of the IAAF.
In 2001 Jayne set up Pearce International, a company that specialised in media operations for major sporting events. She was also a member of the UK Sports Major Events Steering Group for three years, providing advice to the UK’s Sports Council on attracting, staging and financing major events in the UK.
In 2008, she was appointed Head of Press Operations for the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, responsible for providing the operations service for over 21,000 members of the press. She described the appointment as “a dream come true”.
While at Bristol, Jayne was President of the Athletics Union and was honoured with a University of Bristol Red for netball in 1986. After graduating, she played for Middlesex County netball team and became coach of the British Universities netball team, leading a tour to Australia in 1988.
My time at Bristol University provided much more that an opportunity to study for a degree in modern languages. The opportunities I had to play and administer sport really helped me in my career. Organising Athletic Union budgets and minibus rotas for over 30 sports clubs was some of the best hands-on experience ever! I am also immensely proud to have staged the inaugural Bristol Students Half Marathon – even though we nearly ran over the lead runner as the lead vehicle got stuck in the Coombe Dingle mud!
