Emilie Baekgaard (MB ChB 2006 - )

Emilie worked in a volunteering capacity as a Widening Participation Ambassador, travelling to schools, giving tours of the University and running workshops for school students in public speaking and interview skills. She has assisted Erasmus students with housing, welcome work, visa applications and other matters. She was chosen to be Open Day Team Leader in 2012.

In addition, Emilie is a key member of DanceSoc having performed in their annual shows for six years. She manages the society and launched a competition squad taking 20 dancers to the inter-University competition where they finished 2nd.

Emilie is passionate about global health and has been involved with the charity Kenyan Acorn Project since 2008 recruiting volunteers for child health projects. She is currently Vice President. She personally raised £2,000 for the charity working with DramScoc and has appeared in a number of fundraising events for other medical charities.

She has worked as a volunteer at the Bristol Children’s Play Centre and taught street dance to an after-school club for disadvantaged children. Emilie works tirelessly for the Bristol Medics annual dance show Clicendales. The show in 2011-12 was shortlisted for the BMJ Student Union Society Awards for Best Charity Event, raising £14,500.
