Suzi Gage (PhD 2010 - )

2012 Convocation Award winner

Proposer: Professor Marcus Munafo, Professor of Biological Psychology, School of Experimental Psychology.

Suzanne’s public engagement activities are of the highest standard, extraordinary in their extent and reach. She makes extensive use of new media to contribute to debates on a wide number of issues. She maintains a highly-regarded science blog and was a seminar speaker at the Department of Education’s series on understanding behaviour change.

Suzanne has worked hard to engage young people with the exciting possibilities of studying STEM subjects.  She took part in ‘I’m a Scientist Get Me Out of Here’, a Wellcome Trust scheme where scientists are quizzed by school children.  She won the ‘Brain Zone’ and used her prize money to make a series of podcasts aimed at teenagers to explain the evidence on the effects of recreational drugs.

She uses her creative efforts, and her scientific and personal integrity, to attract young people into science.

Her proposers say: Science needs more people like Suzi. We cannot think of anyone who better deserves recognition for her creative efforts, her scientific and personal integrity and her continuing efforts to attract young people into science.
