If you're a fan of vintage shirts, then you’ll love the new book Western Shirts: A Classic American Fashion. Written by Bristol graduate Steve Weil (MSc 1981), it covers all of the major western-wear manufacturers from the 1930s and devotes whole chapters to manufacturers’ details, from yokes to cuffs, pockets to embroidery. Plus, there's a glossary of terms and a section of maker's labels to help indentify and date vintage wear.

Steve is the third generation to run his family’s firm, Rockmount Ranch Wear. His love for vintage Western wear began in high school when he raided his grandfather’s closet for shirts from the 1940s. Today he heads the company and is responsible for all design of the brand’s many lines

Rockmont shirts are a firm favourite with celebrities, including Eric Clapton, and featured in the film Brokeback Mountain.
