This year’s Shakespeare season at The Tobacco Factory has seen a number of former Bristol students returning to the city’s stages.

In Othello, which has just finished its hugely successful run, Bristol alumna Saskia Portway (BA 1992) took on the role of Desdemona, and alumnus Nick Gadd (BA 2003) performed as Secretary to the State in Venice and 1st Officer in Cyprus.

Nick returned to the same stage this month as Conrade in Much Ado About Nothing, which also involves current student Nadia Giscir (Drama 2004- ) in the role of assistant director.

The involvement of Bristol graduates with The Tobacco Factory does not begin and end on the stage however. The innovative theatre in Bristol’s Southville was established by George Ferguson (BA 1968, BArch 1971), Bristol graduate and former president of the Royal Association for British Architects (RIBA).
