15 December 2008

Dr Paul Thompson (BA 1980) has been named as the new Rector of the Royal College of Art.

Dr Thompson, who is currently Director of the Smithsonian Institution’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, had previously been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal College of Art in 2000 for services to art and design education.

Quoted in a press release issued by the Royal College, Dr Thompson is said to consider the appointment ‘a tremendous honour and a privilege’, mentioning the College’s ‘incredible heritage, outstanding staff and graduates who have gone on to make their names as leaders in their fields all over the world'.
