Julia Donaldson (BA 1970), the author of the celebrated children’s Gruffalo books, is launching a competition to find an illustrator for her new book, Freddie and the Fairy.

Described as an 'X Factor for illustrators', the successful competitor will not only win the opportunity of working with a popular children’s author, but will also be paid £6,000 plus royalties.

The book tells the story of a boy who, on meeting with a hearing-impaired fairy, finds that his wishes are not quite granted as he had expected. It is a comic tale with a moral, leaving readers with something to think about.

Entries for the Waterstone's/Daily Telegraph 'Picture This' competition must be received by 18 May 2009.
