Bristol graduate Dr Domenico Zanré (PhD 1999) was onstage with Pope Benedict XVI as he celebrated the open-air mass in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, on 16 September.

Bristol graduate Dr Domenico Zanré (PhD 1999) was onstage with Pope Benedict XVI as he celebrated Mass in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, on 16 September. Dr Zanré was also in the papal procession leaving the stage.

Over 71,000 people attended the open-air Mass, which was part of the Pope’s official state visit to the UK.

Following his postgraduate studies in Italian at Bristol, Dr Zanre took up a lectureship in Italian Studies at Glasgow University. He then went to Rome to study for priesthood and is now based at the Scots Pontifical College studying at the Gregorian University of Rome.
