The Best of Bristol Lectures

23 November 2011

The Best of Bristol (BoB) lectures is a student voted showcase of some of the most inspiring teaching from across the university. BoB Lectures is run entirely by students and alumni. The first BoB lectures was held last academic year, with over 2000 students taking part. Feedback from students, staff and alumni involved was so positive that the project has evolved into an annual celebration of great teaching.

This year alumni can nominate and vote for their favourite lecturers by going to www.boblectures.org.uk and casting their vote before the 10th December. The lecture series will be on Thursday lunchtimes starting from 2nd February 2012. More details will be confirmed shortly, so be sure to sign up to the mailing list to keep informed. All lectures are free of charge and alumni are welcome to attend.

Tom Corfield, BoB founder, sees the lectures as a way to celebrate great teaching. He said: ‘For undergraduates, inspirational teaching is what university is all about. Ask any undergrad about the highlight of their student experience and they’ll describe the brilliant lecturer who inspired them to study.’

There is also a plan to put on a London showcase of BoB to give alumni the opportunity to have ongoing access to some of Bristol's most inspiring lecturers. The team are working with the university to link BoB with the university's outreach programme and to expand the idea to other universities. Any alumni interested in getting involved with the project should contact Tom Corfield at tom@boblectures.org.uk.
