Would you like to support Bristol University and its alumni community?

For the first time last year, we introduced distance voting (postal and electronic) in the annual convocation elections. It was a huge success; almost 1,200 Bristol alumni voted for candidates they wanted to represent them within the University. Voting information will be in your May edition of Nonesuch.

We are now seeking expressions of interest and nominations for several voluntary roles within the University’s governance structure for this year’s elections.

Convocation Representative on Court (multiple volunteer posts)

Each year Convocation elects 25 of its members to serve for a term of four-years on Court. The University Court, whose constitution is defined by Statute, provides advice and views to Council on any matter relating to the University, and is the body that comprises of all the stakeholders of the University.

Members commit to attend the annual meeting of Court, which is traditionally held on a Friday in December. The deadline for applications for Convocation Representatives on Court is 5 pm on 18 April 2012. Please note that applications are only complete once the nominee’s proposer and seconder have confirmed their support of the nomination, either in writing or by email. Please visit the Convocation web pages for further information on the application process.

Member of Convocation Committee (five volunteer posts)

The Convocation Committee is the executive body of Convocation, the University’s alumni association. The role is to help fulfil the Convocation mission by encouraging and supporting alumni groups and working with the University’s Constituent Engagement team on communications, events, and other activities.

The Committee meets four times a year and members are expected to be active on behalf of the alumni association, above and beyond attendance at Committee meetings.

Four new committee members will be elected at the AGM on 7 July 2012 for a three-year term, 2012-2015 and one new member for a two-year term, 2012-2014. The deadline for applications for members of the Convocation Committee is 5 pm on Friday 15 June 2012. Please note that applications are only complete once the nominee’s proposer and seconder have confirmed their support of the nomination, either in writing or by email.  Please visit the Convocation web pages for further information on the application process.

Chair of Convocation (one volunteer post)

The Chair of Convocation is the formal representative and primary spokesperson of the alumni community at large, and is its interface with the University. The Chair will be elected at the AGM on 7 July 2012 for a three-year term, 2012-2015.

Candidates for Chair should have senior management experience, leadership skills in guiding discussions and meetings, and commitment to the future development of the University.

The deadline for applications for Chair of Convocation is 5 pm on Friday 15 June 2012. Please note that applications are only complete once the nominee’s proposer and seconder have confirmed their support of the nomination, either in writing or by email. Please visit the Convocation web pages for further information on the application process.
