Following the announcement of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, we are delighted to be able to congratulate 12 Bristol alumni who received an award to honour their outstanding achievements and service to society.

Companions of the Order of Bath

  • Dr James Bayley (BSc 1982, PhD 1985) for services to the rail industry
  • Professor Christopher Gaskell (BVSc 1971, PhD Medicine) for services to veterinary medicine and agriculture
  • Mrs Marion Gibbs ( BA 1973, Mlitt 1981, PGCE 1974) for services to education and skills
  • Clare Jones (BSc 1980) for services to vulnerable women
  • Dr Harriet Ward (PhD 1991) for services to children and families  

OBE

  • Robert Fletcher (Cert Ed 1968) for charitable services in Bath
  • Miss Sahar Hashemi  (LLB 1988) for services to the UK economy and charity
  • William Knight (LLB 1966) for services to financial regulation
  • Jeremy Peat (BA 1968) for services to business and public services in Scotland
  • Professor Peter Taylor-Gooby (BA 1969) for services to social science  

MBE

  • Dr Philip Green (MB 1973) for services to healthcare 

Three long-standing members of University staff also received a British Empire Medal in recognition of their services to the local community. Dave Skelhorne who works in Estates, Maggie Shapland from IT Services and Geoff Davies from the Veterinary School all received the award, which has been revived to mark the Diamond Jubilee.
