Will Todd

19 May 2014

On Saturday 28 June, composer and musician, Will Todd (BA 1991, MMus 1994) will return to Bristol to perform Mass in Blue with the Bristol Bach Choir in the University’s Victoria Rooms.

Mass in Blue is a jazz setting of the Latin mass text for soprano, chorus and jazz ensemble, and has been performed hundreds of times since its premiere in 2003.

Will – who completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications at Bristol – will be joined by jazz vocalist Bethany Halliday, the Will Todd Trio and the Bristol Bach Choir to perform his flagship work in the fitting setting of Bristol’s Department of Music.

Two years ago, Will’s anthem The Call of Wisdom was performed at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving service.

While at Bristol, Will wrote a tone-poem, a saxophone concerto, a musical and a three-act opera about Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

The evening will also include music from other contemporary choral composers. Tickets (from £10) are available from bristolbach.org.uk.
