#GivingTuesday: celebrating your generosity

1 December 2015

Today (1 December 2015) is National #GivingTuesday, and to celebrate the University's generous community of donors, we asked you why you give to Bristol. In 2014/15, more than 6,700 alumni, parents, friends and organisations gave more than £6.7 million to support the University. Here are just a few reasons why.

Pat Alexander (BA 1958): 'I am immensely grateful to the University for the whole wonderful experience: three years which widened my horizons and built my confidence, in addition to the pleasures of getting to grips with 1,000 years of English Literature - increasing and deepening knowledge. It's three years that have given me a lifetime's benefits. I give in order to enable today's students to have this same opportunity.'

Samantha Smith (BSc 1995): 'Bristol is a fantastic University and its research does amazing things. I wanted to contribute to that, and knowing that my money goes straight to cardiovascular research – an area that has had a real impact on my life – makes it even more meaningful.'

Naomi Buffery (LLB 2000): 'Being a Bristol Pioneer is not just a great opportunity to give something back to the University and keep in touch with fellow alumni. More importantly, it’s a fantastic way to support ground-breaking medical research.'

The Medlock Charitable Trust: 'We’re supporting engineering undergraduates and outreach to help secure the future of the engineering profession in the UK. We’re also supporting research to help better understand some of the difficulties  babies can face at birth, and are delighted with the progress we have seen so far.'

We would like to take this opportunity to once again express our sincere thanks to all of you who have made a gift to Bristol. Together, your donations are pioneering ground-breaking research, solving problems and enriching lives. Thank you.
