Liam Barnett (MEng 2010) was given the gift of life when he received a new liver in summer 2011 and has since won seven Gold medals in seven record times at the World Transplant Games this summer.

For Sheila Anderson (LLB 1956) – whose kind legacy donation to Bristol equals more than £1.5 million – law, learning and opportunity were top of her list.

In the Convocation elections 2013, over 626 alumni voted for alumni they wanted to represent them. Each year, members of Convocation are elected to various voluntary roles within the University’s governance structure to represent the views of alumni and to help develop the alumni community. All alumni are members of Convocation and eligible to participate, including academic staff and graduands (final year students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, who successfully obtain their degree in July).

Following its overwhelming success last year, the University of Bristol Internship Scheme is again underway, offering companies a cost-effective method of recruiting highly-qualified and motivated individuals. Alumni who are interested in getting involved and employing an intern are encouraged to act quickly.

Holly Smale (BA 2004 MA 2006) has secured an international contract for her book “Geek Girl”. As part of a three book deal, which has already been sold in eight languages, the book is a major achievement for a debut author in an increasingly cautious publishing world.
