Anatomy Prizes
As part of its objective to promote and encourage excellence in anatomy, the Centre for Comparative and Clinical Anatomy (CCCA) has for many years, run several awards for undergraduate students in its medical, veterinary, and science fields of study. This page provides information about these competitions, and contains lists of previous winners to celebrate their achievements. Consideration for awards is not by nomination or submission, but through the perseverance of all students to excel in their studies.
The Francis Dudley Dissection Prize
This Dissection Prize set up in 1948 following the acceptance of Dr Francis Dudley for dissection himself, is awarded to medical students in the second year of their undergraduate study.
The Edward Fawcett Prize
The Edward Fawcett Memorial Prize was founded and endowed in 1943, in memory of a great teacher by the widow, son, daughter and sister (Mrs Dixon) of the late Edward Fawcett, formerly Professor Anatomy and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. It is open to Medical students who have taken the whole of their Anatomy course in the University. It may be awarded each year to the student who taking the examination for the first time and not later than the normal termination of the course, obtains the highest mark in Anatomy in the Second M.B., Ch.B. Section II Examination in June.
The Dorothy Fielding Prize (Medicine)
The Prize was founded in 1970 from a bequest from the late Mrs Dorothy Fielding. It may be awarded each year to the student in the Faculty of Medicine who obtains the highest marks in Anatomy in Section I of the 2nd M.B. Examination. If in the opinion of the examiners there are two or more candidates of equal merit the Prize may be divided, and if no candidate is adjudged suitable the Prize may be withheld and an additional award made in some subsequent year.
The Dorothy Fielding Prize (Science)
Founded in 1970, this prize is awarded for the best research project dissertation in the final year of Science courses
The Mary Edith Evans Prize
Founded in 1970, this prize is awarded for best overall mark (best Anatomy student) for final year Science Anatomy unit students
The HMS (Human Muskuloskeletal) Prize
A CCCA awarded prize for Science honours
Student Prizes in Equine Science
This prize is awarded to the student in Equine Science who achieves the highest mark of their graduating class
Student Prizes in Anatomical Science with Veterinary Anatomy
This prize is awarded to the student in Anatomical Science with Veterinary Anatomy who achieves the highest mark of their graduating class
Christopher Wyndham Ottaway Prize
This prize is awarded annually by the Board of Veterinary Studies to a veterinary student on the basis of the highest marks in the second BVSc exam in anatomy, to be spent on books on a veterinary or medical subject.
