Deferring means applying for a course and then taking a year out before coming to University. For example, applying in Autumn 2013 to start university in September 2015.
How do I defer?
Tick the deferred entry box on your UCAS form and tell us about your reasons for deferring as well as your plans for your year out in your personal statement so that we can take them into account when assessing your application.
Can I defer with the subject I want to study?
You will find a note about deferred entry at the bottom of each course listing in the online prospectus
Can I defer my application after submission?
It depends on which course you've applied for. Please contact Undergraduate Admissions for advice.
I already have a deferred place. What happens next?
We will contact you in October, the year before you are due to start at the University to confirm your place, and again the following April to send you information about what you need to do before you arrive.
If you are planning to spend time away, make sure you continue to read your emails or arrange for a family member to check your account on your behalf so you don’t miss any important deadlines such as applying for accommodation.
What if I no longer want to take up my deferred place?
If, during your deferred year, you decide that you no longer want to take up your place at the University, please contact Undergraduate Admissions.
