Dr Camilla Morelli has been awarded a British Academy grant to conduct a new research project, 'Animating the Future: Exploring the Life-Trajectories of Indigenous Youth in Amazonia through Ethnographic Animation'.
She will lead a team of academics, indigenous artists and animators to investigate the key challenges faced by indigenous migrant youth in Amazonian Peru and find strategies to raise awareness about their precarious lives and futures.
The project’s goal is to use co-production of animated films as a way to enable marginalised and displaced indigenous youth to tell their own stories, while producing tangible outputs (animations and policy reports) that will be fed to policymakers and disseminated to the general public in Peru and beyond, so as to amplify young indigenous voices both nationally and internationally.
