MPhil/MLitt

If one of our taught Masters courses does not match your interests then consider the MPhil, which is a research-based degree that you design in consultation with your supervisor. You can combine directed research with selected undergraduate and postgraduate courses to tailor make your programme of study. The wide range of staff and research interests offered in the Department make this an attractive option. Your research will lead to an original thesis of 25,000 words and if you wish to proceed to a MLitt or PhD then the MPhil is the foundation for an upgrade. Research at the Masters level is normally a prerequisite for proceeding to a PhD. The MPhil may be taken on a full-time (12 months) or part-time (24 months) basis to suit you.

If you are interested in reading for an MPhil or MLitt at Bristol, look at the Department's Research Groups and at the research interests listed on the list of staff personal pages

The MLitt degree is a two-year programme of directed research that often leads to a PhD.
