All applications for full-time undergraduate admission must be made through UCAS. For school-leaving applicants, the Department requires that at least two A-levels be in non-vocational subjects. Single Honours Archaeology, Single Honours Archaeology and Anthropology, and Joint Honours Ancient History and Archaeology have no fixed requirements for A-levels, which can be taken in either the humanities or sciences or a mixture of both. Subjects such as History, Geography, Classical Civilisation, Biology, modern languages or Archaeology are particularly suitable, however. Single Honours Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences requires that two A-levels be taken in a recognised science subject. The Department does not accept General Studies.
The standard offer for Single Honours Archaeology and Single Honours Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences is BBB-BCC. The standard offer for Single Honours Archaeology and Anthropology and for Joint Honours Ancient History and Archaeology is AAB-BBB. Other offers may be made for these programmes based upon individual circumstances.
Mature students are particularly welcome, as are students from Access, BTEC, HND and other courses, irrespective of specialisation, and students with foreign qualifications. Such applicants may be invited to interview.
Students who have been made offers of places are invited to attend Departmental Open Days, during which a programme is planned to meet the lecturers and current students, see the Department and sample a little of life as a student here in Bristol. Prospective students are warmly invited to attend the University's Preview Day which takes place in June, when all departments are open for viewing and sample lectures are held.
