Seminars will be held Mondays 4.15 pm – 6 pm, in Link Room 1, 3-5 Woodland Road- all welcome!
Monday 7 October: Bristol History of Art Research- Introductions by members of academic staff.
Monday 21 October, LT3, 17 Woodland Road: Kate Rudy (St Andrews), 'Touching Skin: How Medieval Users Rubbed, Kissed, Inscribed, Splashed, Begrimed, and Pricked their Manuscripts' (Faculty 'Materiality' Research Cluster launch event).
Dr Rudy suggests that attendees read the following article prior to this seminar: Dirty Books: Quantifying Patterns in Medieval Manuscripts Using a Densitometer.
Monday 11 November: BIRTHA LECTURE (not a Research Seminar as such but mandatory for the Core Course): Paul Gough (UWE), 'Running out of memory': Inscribing the city in the cause of commemoration'. (6.30pm in the Great Hall of the Wills Memorial Building. Free, but booking required:
Wednesday 13 November: (rescheduled) Gemma Blackshaw (Plymouth), ‘Facing the Modern: The Portrait in Vienna 1900’ (in association with the (in association with the Transnational Modernisms Research Cluster>(1pm, Lecture Theatre 1, 3-5 Woodland Road).
Wednesday 13 November: Simon Shaw-Miller (Bristol), ‘Stanley Kubrick's symphonic odyssey: a talk and screening of '2001: A Space Odyssey'. (6 pm Auditorium, Victoria Rooms, Queen’s Road.
Monday 25 November: Lee Beard, 'The Long History of a Painting: Cataloguing the Work of Ben Nicholson' (in association with the British Art Research Cluster ).
Monday 9 December: Simon Shaw-Miller, 'The Paradigm of Music: Kandinsky, Duchamp, and Nam June Paik'
