‘The Celebrity and Repertoire of Susannah Cibber and Mary Ann Yates’
In this paper Elaine McGirr will explore the productive rivalry between Susannah Cibber, the leading tragedienne of the mid-eighteenth century, and her understudy and soon-to-be-diva in her own right, Mary Ann Yates.

Dr Catherine Hindson
University of Bristol

‘No. Not Siddons: Sarah M’Cready and early nineteenth-century Bristolian Celebrity’
For audiences in Bristol and Bath Sarah M’Cready was the leading lady of the day, yet outside of the regional theatrical histories of Bristol, Bath and Swansea she remains a footnote in theatre history. What does it mean to think about theatrical celebrity from the past in its local context?

The afternoon will include three short papers and time for discussion over tea and cake. All very welcome.
