Monasteraki, Amariou: A New Palace in Crete?

Over the past 70 years, the site of Monastiraki, in a fertile valley that provides access across Crete, has been explored by Germans, Italians and, mostly, Greeks.

A new project directed by Athanasia Kanta for the past few years has for the first time fully revealed the site’s palatial status (First Palace period; 2000-1700 BCE) – and more.

This talk reviews the earlier campaigns and presents the more recent, and fascinating, structural revelations.
