Philosophy Research Seminar - Climate Responsibilities and Background Injustice - Dr Megan Blomfield (Sheffield)

14 February 2019, 2.00 PM - 14 February 2019, 3.30 PM

G2, Cotham House

In philosophical discussions about climate change and responsibility, it is common to find theorists debating whether the costs of combating climate change and compensating for climate disasters should be allocated to polluters, the beneficiaries of pollution, or the wealthy. I argue that this framing of the problem is insufficiently attentive to the fact that climate change is taking place in a world characterised by many background injustices. These background injustices should change the way that we think about climate responsibilities.
