Professor Yasmin Haskell Appointed as IGRCT Director
22 August 2017
Professor Yasmin Haskell will take over from Professor Nicoletta Momigliano, who held the Directorship from 2015-17.
The Institute of Greece, Rome, and the Classical Tradition has undergone a number of changes this summer. We now have two new members on our Executive Committee, a new incoming administrator, and several new initiatives in the pipeline. Perhaps the biggest change, however, is that Professor Nicoletta Momigliano has stepped down as IGRCT Director, and passed the baton onto Professor Yasmin Haskell, the University's Chair of Latin.
Professor Momigliano said that it has been "a privilege and a pleasure to be Director for the past two years. The role is undoubtedly one of the most interesting administrative jobs that I have undertaken, so far, during my time at Bristol. Many of its aspects reminded me closely of being director of an archaeological project in Crete or Turkey, though with some notable advantages. I did not, for instance, have to wake up at 5 am and spend eight hours a day in the scorching sun and dust. Nor did I have to struggle with accounts in three or four different currencies, or manage large, multi-lingual teams. On the subject of teams, I wish to thank all the members of the IGRCT Executive Committee for their valuable input and time, including those who persuaded me to stay on for an extra year. In particular, I should like to thank our President, Professor Robert Fowler and our Deputy Director, Ellen O’Gorman for their unfailing support. Last but not least, my warmest thanks go to Jessica Westlake and Richard Cole, the IGRCT’s co-ordinator and intern. I leave the IGRCT with many excellent and pleasant memories."
The IGRCT would like to thank Professor Momigliano for all her exceptional hard work, dedication, and time over the past two years. We would also like to extend a very warm welcome to Professor Haskell.
