Co-producing with students and championing engagement
BILT works with students in a number of ways to ensure that the work we do is informed by the student experience, and that research is feedback to the student body.
Co-producing with students and championing engagement is core to BILT's role and function. This is mainly done through our Student Fellows scheme and BILT Hackathons, though we informally engaged with students through grants, funds and attendance at events.
Student Fellow project themes
We employ Student Fellows on a part-time basis to work on projects each year, the 2023-24 project themes are:
- International student experience
- Designing for all – inclusive assessment
- Designing for all – AI and assessment
- Designing for all – Group assessment
- Pedagogic research culture
Student belonging and wellbeing in the curricula
Looking into how teaching, learning and assessment activities can help to develop a sense of belonging and nurture good wellbeing among students. Previous outputs from this project have included a podcast about wellbeing in the higher education and a conference dedicated to teaching and wellbeing.
Decolonising the curriculum
This is the third year we've run this project theme, this year's Student Fellow will continue the work across the University and connect students to this important cause.
Embedding sustainable development in the curriculum
Continuing our work from last year in this area, this project will explore how we can continue to develop teaching and learning activities that embed sustainable development.
Research-rich teaching, learning and assessment
Differing slightly from our other projects, this project has two definite activities that are lead by two Student Fellows. Working as a team they will organise and deliver the University’s Student Research Festival and be Co-editors of the Student Research Journal.
Active and authentic teaching, learning and assessment activities
The aim of this project is to research, find and promote best practice and create resources about the active learning and authentic learning across the university. This project also covers group projects, flipped classrooms and group dissertations. Previous outputs from similar projects have included the ‘Active, Collaborative Cookbook’ and the 'Authentic Open Unit Map'.
