Imaging the dynamics of PtdIns(3)P within HeLa cells using a GFP-tagged twin FYVE domain. As the 2xFYVEhrs specifically binds PtdIns(3)P it can be used as a biosensor to report the distribution of this phosphoinositide in living cells. The movie shows a HeLa cells expressing low levels of GFP-tagged 2xFYVEhrs. The vesicular localization of the biosensor corresponds to the early endosomal compartment. Frames were captured every second for a period of 50 seconds. Note that the GFP-2xFYVEhrs probe is not associated with membrane tubules.
