Professor Ross Anderson | Inaugural Lecture | Rewiring the circuits of life to build a better bioelectronic future

3 February 2023, 6.00 PM - 3 February 2023, 8.00 PM

Professor Ross Anderson

Reception Room, Wills Memorial Building, Bristol, BS8 1RJ

TitleRewiring the circuits of life to build a better bioelectronic future

AbstractThe flow of electrons through protein-based wires and circuitry is essential to life, underpinning cellular respiration, photosynthesis and many metabolic pathways. While we understand well how these vital processes work, we are currently unable to fully exploit their exquisite biomolecular engineering and powerful functions on our own terms within human-designed proteins. In this lecture he will discuss his group's progress towards realising this goal, describing how our non-natural proteins can act as powerful catalysts for pharmaceutically important reactions, functional parts in solar cells, and as biocompatible nanoscale wires.
