Summary

My primary scientific focus lies in investigating the role inflammatory signalling pathways play during skin and cardiac fibrosis and subsequent scar resolution in a novel, adult zebrafish model system.

Following an early career in human genetics and mouse models of human disease, I was fascinated to master the techniques that make Zebrafish such an excellent vertebrate model system for cellular level/whole organ live in vivo imaging, genetic manipulation and large and small-scale pharmacological/drug screening. Adult zebrafish retain a remarkable capacity for regeneration of many tissues, including the heart, skin and fins. My primary research interests are centred on this regenerative capacity, particularly the extraordinary capability of adult fish to resolve scar tissue and the potential this has for improving outcomes for clinical patients in the future.
