Research summary

My lab began using the nematode C. elegans as a multicellular animal model to understand the signalling pathway underlying cell fate decisions controlling sex determination. It was found that a signal transduction pathway, which shares homology with the Hedgehog/Patched (Hh/Ptc) signalling pathway, underlies sexual cell fate decisions. These studies have directly led to our present research interests: 1) The role of calpain proteases in cell signalling and degenerative processes and 2) the role of PTC and PTC-related proteins in cell proliferation and cytokinesis, and osmolarity regulation. We are also taking advantage of the local strengths at the University ...
