Welcome to the Wolfson Bioimaging Facility.

The Wolfson Bioimaging Facility is a newly established (2008) microscopy facility located on Floor C of the Medical Sciences Building, University of Bristol. We feel we are unique in the UK because we fully integrate both modalities, with new FEI electron microscopes sitting side-by-side to the latest Leica and Perkin Elmer confocal microscopes; we are particularly well set up for live cell imaging and for correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM).

Our aim is to provide both the latest-state-of-the-art, as well as more routine facilities for both Light and Electron Microscopy users. Although set up as a single integrated facility it is clear that both light and electron microscopy have their own quirks and expertise requirements, and so we have a separate manager and team of technicians for each arm of the facility; Light Microscopy Unit and Electron Microscopy Unit.

The Wolfson Bioimaging Facility was established by the merger of the MRC Cell Imaging Facility and an Electron Microscopy Unit within the Department of Physiology. To celebrate this we organised an official opening on June 20, 2008, and a Scientific Opening Symposium on January 8, 2009.
