BRISK seminar: "The strange story of risk in New Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina" - 20th January 2009

Robert Muir-Wood, a chief research officer at RMS, will give a talk on "The strange story of risk in New Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina".

Abstract:

'Hurricane Katrina and the flooding of New Orleans was a disaster at the end of an inevitable slow motion collision of climatology, geology, demography and politics. In an era of rising sea levels, stronger hurricanes, subsiding megadeltas and population expansion, the story of Katrina and the question of the future of the City of New Orleans highlight many of the themes likely to be exacerbated in the coastal catastrophes of the 21st Century.'

The seminar will be held in the Hepple Lecture theatre, in the School of Geographical Sciences, University of Bristol on 20th January at 3.30pm
