Professor Sarah Street

Professor Sarah Street specialises in Film History and Colour Film.

Her research focuses on the impact of new colour technologies on film directors, cinematographers, production and costume designers, as well as the impact of colour films on global audiences. Sarah works with The British Film Institute and Studio Canal, a leading European film producer and distributor, on issues of preservation and restoration. Recent research projects involve analysing films dating from the 1950s and 1960s that were shot with Eastmancolor stock, many of which have been subject to deterioration. She has also worked closely with the EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam on the heritage of film colour in the silent period of cinema history.

Our colour film projects have benefited immensely from links with the film industry and cultural organisations. Researching the full spectrum of our chromatic film heritage, and how to keep that alive for today’s audiences, has been a mutually-beneficial and culturally important enterprise.
