Funding further study may seem daunting but there are resources to help in your search. Putting a bit of time and effort into some research may pay off, literally!

To start, the University provides guidance on postgraduate funding, and a search tool for finding funding at all levels of study. Other sources of postgraduate funding information include ProspectsTARGETpostgrad, and Research Councils UK.

Government loans are now available for postgraduate study. For more information, take a look at the FindAMasters postgraduate loans scheme website, Prospects Scholarships and bursaries page, and the Student Loans Company website.

Charities and trusts

Take some time to look at these - even if they appear not to be relevant to you at first glance, you may be surprised. Get started with the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding. This not only includes a number of charities to apply to, it's filled with advice and guidance about applying. Student Competitions also includes a number of scholarship and work experience opportunities that may assist you.

The Guide to Educational Grants is also a great resource when searching for funding, for postgraduate study as well as conferences and research. We have the most recent copy available to view - come in and see us - and 2 loanable copies as well. Other sources include The Grants Register and The Directory of Grant Making Trusts - these are available from Library Services or you could try your local library.

Employer funding and sponsorships

On occasion, employers will sponsor or contribute towards the cost of your course. The opportunities vary hugely and there isn’t a comprehensive list of the options available but in any case, it is worth approaching your employer to discuss your options. Employers such as the NHS and Lloyds Banking Group offer opportunities for undergraduates and postgraduates.

Studentships and bursaries

Nearly all universities have funding opportunities. However, the amounts available and how that money is distributed varies. Prospects provides very useful information about teaching and assistantships, scholarships, awards and bursaries on their scholarship and bursaries web page.
