Information for academic staff

Early engagement with the Careers Service is vital to maximising the employability of our students and helping them get to where they want to be when they graduate. The Faculty Employability Team (FET) works with students within Schools/Departments to help them explore their options, develop their skills and gain experience, and find and apply for opportunities. Working with designated Careers Contacts in each School, the Faculty Employability Team deliver a variety of interventions to support Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research students in all Faculties.

Employability Partnership Agreements

The Faculty Employability Team works with Contacts to establish Employability Partnership Agreements with each School. These documents combine available management information and existing School and Careers Service activities to outline careers and employability interventions for the following academic year.

Support for Personal Tutors

The Faculty Employability Team has designed an information sheet for Personal Tutors to use with tutees. The document provides example questions to ask students about their career planning and resources to signpost them towards.

Lectures and workshops

The Faculty Employability Team are experts in employability. Working to pre-agreed Intended Learning Outcomes, they can deliver talks or workshops tailored to different student audiences. Examples include: 'Options with a Biochemistry Degree', 'Digital literacy' and 'Is a PhD right for my career?'. External speakers such as employers and alumni may be invited to speak.

Alumni events

The Faculty Employability Team works with academics and students to support alumni events. Recent examples include co-organising the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences Alumni Evening in the autumn term, supporting the Faculty of Arts Careers Week, and attending the Biological Sciences Alumni Evening.

Drop ins

The Faculty Employability Team has been piloting drop in sessions during 2016-17 to provide one-to-one information and advice to students in their schools and encourage further engagement with the Careers Service.
