Support for international students

Experiences and opportunities in the UK can help you stand out in your job applications, such as getting involved in student societies, doing voluntary work or getting a part-time job. Here are some ways in which we provide specialist help for international students:

We run a number of specialist events throughout the year for current international students and recent graduates. Events are listed on mycareer and include CV writing skills and interview workshops.

Employer presentations

Employer presentations are also listed on mycareer and many graduate recruiters promote their international opportunities on campus. Attending these presentations will give you an insight in to what it's like to work for them both in the UK and abroad, if they are multinational companies.

The University of Bristol is part of GW4, and the first GW4 international careers fair was held in China in 2015. The fair gives students looking to return home after their studyies exposure to multinational companies with graduate opportunities. The next international careers fairs will be held in Shenzhen and Shanghai in September 2018.

Bristol PLUS Award

The Bristol PLUS Award is available to all students, giving you the opportunity to gain professional and life skills through work experience, volunteering and other activities outside of your studies. As an international student, the Award is particularly useful as it encourages you to network and engage with UK students in workshops and the local community through work experience. You'll also be learning about the UK job market, the skills employers are looking for which will enhance your CV, improve your ability to write successful applications and stand out at interview

See our International Students' FAQ for answers to a number of general questions we get asked.

Our international work and study pages provide advice and information about pursuing a career abroad, and we also subscribe to GoinGlobal, a database containing country guides and an international jobs board, and GradLink which is useful for finding jobs overseas.

For jobs in the UK, Student Circus is a niche portal that has been set up to help international students to find jobs and internships in the UK.

The following resources have also been developed specifically to assist Chinese students studying in the UK, but which contain advice and information that is applicable to everyone. These are: for help in careers planning; and to help you develop innovation and entrepreneurship skills that will make you more employable.

Networking opportunities

As well as the chance to network and engage with UK students and employers through events, we also have the Careers Network. The network is a database of Bristol alumni who have volunteered to give you an in-depth, informal insight into the sector they work in and what their job involves. For more information have a look at our talk to alumni page.

International Student Visa Advice and Compliance

We work closely with the International Student Visa Advice and Compliance team to co-deliver events and provide opportunities for international students. They're also the experts when it comes to visas and providing information about living in the UK, during and after your studies.
