Global resources
- Search the Going Global database for country-specific career information (please note that this resource is only available to current University of Bristol students and staff).
- Browse country profiles from Prospects.ac.uk - details for working and studying in over 50 countries around the world, including the job market, visa requirements and vacancy sources.
- Browse NASES country guides which provide labour market information for international students who want to return to their home country. There is also information about finding and applying for jobs; a sample CV and useful information sources.
- Keep up to date with The Financial Times International Business Insight. There are also specific reports on Emerging Europe; Latin America; Middle East/Africa; Asia-Pacific regions.
- The Careers Service subscribes to the US database Vault Career Insider which has a section 'international guides' (from the guides tab) and also the ability to research global employers from the companies tab. Regions covered under the global employers section are North America; Europe; India; Southeast Asia; Australia; Greater China; Japan and Korea.
- Universum publish the Ideal Employer Rankings which include national rankings of employers.
- University of Warwick has developed GlobalPAD which has an intercultural skills section.
- Search the Careers Tagged database from The Careers Group, University of London for online resources for a whole range of countries.
- BBC Country Profiles - guide to history, politics and economic background of countries and territories, and background on key institutions. Profiles also include audio and video clips from BBC archives.
- Entrypark international career book 2013 contains six downloadable PDF guides to international employers in business and engineering and science. They cover three regions: Global, Asian, European.
- Find out the contact details of British embassies throughout the world. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office website also has country profiles.
- Exodus - a searchable database of country-specific information on working abroad - is available for public use on the (bookable) PCs of the Learning Centre on the first floor of the Central Library on College Green.
- Careers Service resources about individual countries and regions of the world are searchable using the Careers Catalogue. Resource examples include:
- Reference books like Work your way around the world and many of the Live and work in... series. Books provide information about working and living in many countries including CV templates.
International further study
- It is essential to plan well ahead for international further study as closing dates for course and funding applications are frequently at least a year in advance of the actual start dates.
- Careers Service resources about international further study are searchable using the Careers Catalogue. Resource examples include:
- Reference books like Postgraduate Study in the USA and many of the Live and work in... series. There is also a Study Abroad (UNESCO) guide. These books provide information about international study.
- The Careers Service's general pages about postgraduate study provide an overview to the subject.
- The Graduate Prospects pages about Studying Abroad include a guide to studying abroad; sections on studying in Australia and New Zealand and in Europe. It also has links to the Country Profiles which have postgraduate study information for each country.
- Top Universities provides international ranking tables that can be searched by individual subjects; geographical regions and QS World Universities rankings (including Asian Universities rankings; and rankings by subject (Arts & Humanities; Science; Engineering)).
- The Times Higher Education World Rankings can be searched by subject and region but only cover the top two hundred universities. One of these tables ranks universities by their reputation (top 100).
- If you want to search which universities teach in a certain language IIEPassport might be useful. It also can be searched by country/region and subject and provides scholarship information.
- International Association of Universities has a list of member institutions in countries all over the world.
- Bristol is a member of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), which funds a period of study overseas for Bristol research students in Europe, North America, South East Asia and Australia.
- Education UK from the British Council has advice for international students interested in studying in the UK.
- Browse Mastersportal.eu if you are interested in studying within the European Union. It can be searched by country, course, language and price. There is also a PhDportal.eu and a scholarships section.
- New Scientist Study - includes details of courses and studentships abroad.
- Association of Commonwealth Universities - Includes searchable database of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Commonwealth countries.
- The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK administers scholarships including the Commonwealth Scholarship & Fellowship Plan which includes scholarships to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and a range of other countries.
- The Commonwealth Universities Yearbook is available in the Arts & Social Sciences library (latest edition is for 2008).
- Open University worldwide contacts is a list of contacts for studying Open University courses worldwide.
Funding international further study
- The funding pages of the Careers Service's website have a section on funding for further international study and for international students. The Student Funding Office has sources of funding for study abroad.
International job vacancies
- The Graduate Prospects pages about Working Abroad cover issues such as 'Why do it?'; 'Where can I go?'; 'Finding employers'; 'self employment'.
- Search our Jobs pages using the 'advanced vacancy search' for vacation and graduate jobs with an international location.
- Search the Going Global database for international job vacancies, internship opportunities and country-specific career information.
- Browse iAgora for graduate jobs and internships around the world.
- International Graduate Jobs from Graduate Prospects and The Careers Group London, has international opportunities in a range of job sectors, CV and interview advice.
- International Job Online from The Careers Group, University of London. Search vacancies and country specific information.
- Search the Careers Tagged database from The Careers Group, University of London for vacancy sources for a whole range of countries.
- Browse the Kompass Online Directory, a business to business directory. You can search by type of business and country/continent.
- Search Jobs.ac.uk for jobs in universities around the world.
- Search Careerjet.com an international jobs search engine.
- The UK government's UK Trade & Investment department website is aimed at exporters, but has general background information on most countries and links arranged by business sector and/or country.

- Research law firms all over the world using Legal500.com a worldwide legal directory.
- Browse Corporateinformation.com for links to corporate and related industry information sites providing information on companies in many countries.

Overseas Internship Competition
The Overseas Internship Competition is open to all current students as well as graduates who have finished their degree in the same calendar year as their internship. Applicants will have sourced an internship abroad and be able to articulate the benefits of the experience upon their return. Internships that form part of a student's degree in their year abroad are not eligible for the competition.
Individuals wishing to apply should complete an application form detailing how their internship experience in a professional field outside of the UK has contributed to their personal and professional development. The Careers Service will also ask the employer to provide details of the internship.
The deadline for submitting application forms is Monday 30th September. A second deadline for those still completing their internships at the closing date is 31st January.
Winners will be decided once internships have been completed. Prizes will begin at £250, and winners will also receive a certificate. Please send entries to our Internship Manager.
Dean of Engineering International Intern Scholarship Scheme
Overseas Faculty of Engineering students can apply for the Dean of Engineering International Intern Scholarship Scheme. For more details on this scheme please see the Faculty of Engineering website.
