Signposting our Services to Students
- Using the Careers Service in person and resources: the Careers Service is open to all students, recent graduates and staff. It is stocked with information about occupations, employers, international work and study, postgraduate study and funding, amongst many other topics. Information Specialists are available to help answer enquiries.
- Appointments: Careers Advisers are available daily for students who need a one to one chat regarding any career issues - this could be checking a CV, discussing postgraduate options, helping prepare for an interview and other general career advice.
- Events: Careers advisers and information specialists deliver an extensive range of events, sometimes in conjunction with employers. Students can sign up for these events through our website. Events include: Interview skills, How to get an internship, CVs and application forms, Presentation skills, and more.
- Work Experience Support: The Careers Service can assist your students who want to gain relevant work experience through summer placements, university internships and part time work.
- Employer Events: Employers visit the Bristol campus throughout the year to give presentations on what it is like to work for them - these are held mostly during the Autumn term, both on and off campus. The Careers Service delivers large Careers Fairs through out the year, the main ones being in the Autumn term and and organises employer presentations. Employers also work with the Careers Service offering their expertise within the graduate recruitment market by delivering skills sessions such as Success at assessment centres and How to complete online applications.
- Postgraduate Study Advice: The Careers Service holds resources for students considering postgraduate study. This includes directories and funding advice and our website has a section for those students considering postgraduate courses.
- Postgraduate Student Advice: For students currently on a Postgraduate course at Bristol all the Careers Advisers are able to give advice and guidance on further study options and careers. We also have a dedicated Postgraduate Careers Adviser, who is able to give tailored provision to departments and individual postgraduate students if required.
- International Student Advice: The Careers Service website has a section dedicated to international students - this provides them with useful information for both finding term time work and studying in the UK. The Careers Service provides workshops specially designed for International students offering tips and advice on applying for jobs in their home countries or the UK.
- Jobshop: We have a dedicated service for helping students find graduate, part-time and vacation work to financially support their studies. If you have students who need guidance and support finding work or placements we can help through the Jobshop service.
- Careers Network: Many of our alumni are willing to be contacted and quizzed by students and staff about their career. You can utilise our Careers Network to search for alumni who might be able to help or advise you.
- Graduate Advice: Careers Service facilities and guidance are available to graduating students for up to three years after graduation. After that point graduates may pay an annual fee for using our services; for the first 3 years this includes all resources plus the ability to book appointments; 5 years after graduating usage is reduced to print resources only. We operate an advice by email service for graduates and students unable to visit the service. Graduate web pages.
- Insight Courses: Each year we run two intensive multi-day courses each attended by over one hundred students. Insight into Management is held in late September and Insight into Media in late March. Both courses provide a wealth of advice, training, and practical activities that give students an insight into particular career paths.
- Student Skills: We work closely with other University departments to support a huge programme of skills training available to all students through a year long workshop programme.
