Children of the 90s (also known as ALSPAC), was founded by Professor Jean Golding in 1991. It was analyses of the large surveys in which she had been involved that highlighted for her the importance of the fine detail that was not available in major national studies and enabled her to design a very detailed protocol for the collection of data that is evident in the Children of the 90s study today.
Speaking about her nomination for an OBE, Professor Golding said: "This I see as an honour not just for me but for the many participants and members of staff that contributed to the many studies I have been involved with, especially those in Children of the 90s". The world-famous population study she founded in Bristol, celebrates its 21st birthday in 2012.
